MUMBAI: A 57-year-old woman Deepika Rupani committed suicide by jumping off the from terrace of the six-storied Vashisht Residential Society in Ghatkopar (east) on Thursday.
Deepika Rupani had been undergoing treatment for the last 10 years for due to the presence of white spots on her body, a probable case of leucoderma. Sources said that depression due to the illness must have led Deepika to take the extreme step.

DCP (zone-7) Sanjay Shintre said, "The incident took place between 12.50 pm and 2.30 pm on Thursday. She was fed up of the 10 year long treatment and was probably moving towards into a state of depression."
Her husband, Deepika lived with her husband Navinchandra Rupani (60), was at home when the incident took place. Locals saw her jump off and informed him immediately. After he was informed, the locals called the police helpline number 100 and the case was taken to the Panthagar police.
Preliminary police reports suggest depression to be the cause. "We are still investigating on the cause of the suicide. We will record as of now are getting statements from
her husband's and daughter's statement, respectively" said senior inspector M S Suryawanshi. Deepika's daughter works at a store called Satyam. Her son is a chemical engineer in the US.
